Every roof is different; there’s no one way to clean all roofs. But for most of the roof cleaning jobs, we mainly do two steps.
We manually remove most of the moss, conduct roof inspection and minor repairs, and then clean gutters. We also clean fallen debris on the ground.
The chemical will
1) clean black streaks
2) kill smaller pieces of moss that didn’t come off during step 1
3) sanitize the roof to prevent future regrowth (three year moss free warranty)
When job finished, the roof will be cleaner and brighter, but still has smaller pieces of dead moss remained, which normally takes 10-20 weeks to naturally deteriorate or fall off. Here are a few photos showing before and 10-20 weeks after the treatment.
Moss takes time to grow; it also takes time to go away (at least safely). We do offer an option of low-pressure washing the roof (after the chemical treatment). If you are selling the house this weekend, and don’t want to wait, this is an option to consider. It will make the roof look a lot better, but still can’t remove all the dead moss instantly and safely. In addition, this step has an additional cost, and introduces a small chance of water intrusion.
High pressure washing a roof is strongly not recommended. It could damage the roof, cause leaks, void roof shingle warranty, in the meantime, not able to clean and sanitize the roof effectively.
